Bros trailer – first look at Billy Eichner’s gay rom-com

Universal has released the hilariously filthy (and very NSFW) first trailer for the groundbreaking gay rom-com brothers.

Written by American Horror Stories star Billy Eichner and Nicholas Stoller, the movie marks the first rom-com from a major studio that’s about two gay men, and it looks like it’ll live up to its historic billing.

Eichner is also the first openly gay man to co-write and star in his own major studio movie, with Bros also featuring an entirely LGBTQ+ principal cast including Luke Macfarlane, Ts Madison, Monica Raymund, Guillermo Díaz, Guy Branum and Amanda Bearse.

Universal Pictures

brothers centers two gay men (Eichner and Macfarlane) stumbling towards love, maybe. They’re both just very busy, and it’s hard to find another tolerable human being to go through life with.

Back in March 2021, Eichner celebrated the groundbreaking announcement of brothers by joking: “Only took 100 years! THANKS HOLLYWOOD!!!”

He revealed earlier this year that he first started writing the rom-com back in 2017, but he assumed that his love interest would have “played by a famous straight actor” if it was made back then.

“As the movie was developing, it didn’t make sense for the other lead actor to be played by a straight actor,” Eichner continued.

“That was going against everything the movie was trying to say. And then I said to Nick Stoller, once that decision was made, that the entire cast should be openly LGBTQ+ actors, including in the straight roles.

“On a cultural level, it’s a powerful statement to make. But on a practical level, we’re doing the first gay rom-com ever made by a major studio, and most of the characters in it are LGBTQ+.”

brothers is released in US cinemas on September 30 and in UK cinemas on October 28.
